We need three types of exercise: Flexibility, aerobic, and strength training.

4. Eat well.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are among the most important foods you can eat. The greater the variety of colors, the better because they contain different types of antioxidants. Antioxidants strengthen your immune system and slow the aging process. Fresh produce is best, frozen is second best, and the least nutritious are canned fruits and vegetables.

5. Go for plenty of Walks.

A lot of people will say walk for 30 minute per day, I disagree. Walking should not just be for losing weight, it should also be for your own peace of mind. Walking is a non strenuous exercise that improves your heartrate, your respiration, and your mood. Enjoy the walk and take it slowly and you will want to take many more walks.

6. Isometrics.

You do not need to go to the gym to get a workout. Sitting there at your desk you could be doing Bicep Curls right now. Instead of using a weight, simply make a fist and tighten up the bicep. Now, as you bring your fist up to your shoulder, make it as hard as you can on yourself. Literally use your own strength to fight the movement. This will enhance tone, strength, and never risk a muscle. You can do this with any exercise, including something as simple as washing the car.

The two most common diets around are the Low Fat diet and the Low Carb diet. These plans have been popular for many years because of the initial weight loss, but people have trouble keeping the weight off later on. Lets look at them for a moment

Low Carb Diets tend to be impossibly strict. Not only can you not eat Carbs, you can barely eat at all. After a few weeks of following this plan you will notice that you have lost weight though, and this will make you think the plan is working. You will also notice that you feel much more tired, have less energy, and that you have stopped being as active. Low Carb Diets deplete your glycogen (energy reserves) in your kidney and muscles and are generally unhealthy. Yes, you lose weight, but only because you are slowly dehydrating yourself.

Low Fat Diets tend to eliminate some of the truly best tasting food. As well, without fat interrupting the flow of carbohydrates going into your system we tend to feel extreme highs and lows. If you have ever had a sugar high, you will know what this feels like. The crash at the end is the worst part. You will find yourself much more irritable and erratic.

Iron is an essential mineral for life. It is found in the red blood cells of the body and is also needed to produce red blood cells.

Most of the iron in the body is attached to the haemoglobin molecules in red blood cells, thereby transporting oxygen to all the tissues of the body. Haemoglobin is the essential protein found in red blood cells and represents about two thirds of the body’s iron. When red blood cells die, the iron in them is recycled in the bone marrow to be used again in new red blood cells.

Myoglobin is the heme-containing protein that is involved in the transport and storage of oxygen.

Purpose of Iron –

Iron is found in the haemoglobin, a protein inside red blood cells that helps transport oxygen out of the lungs, so that it can be carried to the body parts that require it. Therefore, its main role is to carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.

Iron assists with the metabolisation process and it is crucial for the body to regulate temperature.

Deficiency of iron –

If the quantity of iron in the body become below normal levels, iron-deficiency anaemia can occur. This is characterized by weakness, tiredness, muscle fatigue, and shortness of breath. In severe cases, a person’s skin may become pale due to a lack of red blood cells in the body.

In children, iron deficiency is usually the result of an inadequate iron intake.

In adults, iron deficiency is most commonly due to chronic blood loss, such as during heavy menstruation in women, intestinal bleeding from peptic ulcers, cancer, or hemorrhoids.

Iron supplement overdose symptoms are associated with stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, black stools, lethargy, weakness, collapse, weak/rapid heartbeats, shallow breathing, convulsions and coma. If a little is good, a lot is not better. . . especially with iron supplements.Try getting those symptoms from eating parsley and taking a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses every now and then.

Blackstrap molasses and parsley are so much safer than the iron pills. I don’t believe anyone can overdose on parsley, but if you take too much molasses you can get black tarry stools. A safe preventative dose is one teaspoon per day as an adult. For children ages 7-13 years, give 1 teaspoon up to three times a week. Both parsley and blackstrap molasses are packed with minerals (including those trace minerals we need).

Iron overload is linked to some cancers, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and endocrine dysfunction. It is easy to overload when taking iron pills. It is much safer sticking to natural food sources for iron. Other foods high in iron include: cherries, prunes, leafy greens, poultry liver, legumes (peas/beans/lentils), eggs, fish and whole grains. If you crave these foods, it may be an indication that you are low on iron.

Herbs high in iron include: alfalfa, bilberry, burdock, catnip, yellow dock root, watercress, sarsaparilla (in root beer) and nettles. I think your safest bets are nettles (also for itchy skin disease and low calcium), catnip (also good for sleep disorders), burdock (also a good liver cleanser), and alfalfa (a bit over used—I see some allergic reactions with this.)
